Will the Palestinian Authority collapse back into chaos, and will Hamas use this opportunity to fire rockets into Israel? Many believe that there are rockets already in place in the Palestinian territory to do that and that there are perhaps enough rockets for several weeks of volley. That is a scary thought indeed. Especially considering, Israel has captures a shipment of 500-tons of weapons on its way to Lebanon, and knows of many tons of weapons being filtrated into Hamas from Syria.
Now that Mahmoud Abbas has threatened to resign from the Palestinian Authority, what comes next? Abbas of course is not always an easy man to get along, even as progress recently had been made. Now, with in what looked like they might be meaningful negotiations, it looks as if it will start all over again from scratch.
Was Abbas the last chance for peace in the Middle East this decade? Many foreign diplomats believe so, and you must realize he runs the PLO and Fatah, an often quite hostile and outspoken political action group. But, if he cannot help bring peace, it’s hard to believe his more radical replacements care too. Remember they still believe that Israel has no right to exist.
Meanwhile, Israel is okay with a Palestinian state as long as that Palestinian state agrees that Israel also has the right to exist, as without that, there really is nowhere to negotiate too. Without Abbas running for re-election or if he resigns, then negotiators will be dealing with a new person in charge, likely someone who has come from the vocal opponents of the Jewish State, so, we must all consider this.
