Sure, nothing says I love you like drowning 99.999% of population in a flood. What a hallmark moment that must have been.

The really comforting part? The part of the bible that says he is the same today as he was then as he will be tomorrow.

He hasn’t changed and according to that, is incapable of changing.

People generally don’t like the parts where He tells His people to wipe out whole towns including women and children. They don’t understand His jealous and fierce protection of His people and His overwhelming desire to keep them pure and free from false religions and bad influences.

The OT god is a very different character from the god in the sequel. In the OT, he meted out his wrath whenever anyone disobeyed him. Look at the flood, the ten plagues, Sodom and Gomorrah. There aren’t too many examples of his love and mercy in the OT.

Only those who never actually read the Old Testament can continue to believe that God is merciful and all about love.

Either that or they somehow convince themselves that genocide and dashing babies against rocks are merciful and loving. Or that only the most faithful Jews deserved mercy.

The real question is, how does it not show he is a tyrant?

Because they are living today.
They see the civilization that the Son of God has given us through his dead on the cross and they do not understand the world before Jesus caused by the original sin.

The old law was due to the original sin of men.
They don’t understand the justice of God because they don’t understand what the original sin did.

I don’t think God is as quick to hand out severe judgement to sinners now because we’re in a period of grace instead of a period of the law like in the OT. That may be why they say he’s a tyrant in the OT.

Maybe you should read the Old Testament for yourself. The god in the OT was not all that nice and did allot of smiting this and that. Not untill the NT comes into play do you get the theme of love brought in by his supposed son jesus.

Think you better read it, god killed more people for dumb reason, like wanting meat to eat or flooding the earth, . if you call that merciful and love then you really are delusional.

He is, I think the only reason he seems harsher in the OT is that people knew God existed, and still sinned.

We all deserve to be in Hell, Its only threw the blood of christ that we can receive salvation. God never killed one person who did not deserve it

God commits unbearable atrocities, that’s why the bibles rated the most violent book in the world. He kills people by the thousands, he had david cut of the for skins of his enemies, turns people to stone, kicks adam and eve out for eating fruit, punishes the serpent for all time merely for being possessed by satan and made to trick eve. Your concept of love must be different from mine. Then, in the NT we see ‘salvation’ through jesus. All you have to do is believe in him. But, Oh wait, believe isn’t something you can choose, you can try to believe but in the end you either do or don’t. If he was loving god would have chosen a more moral and plausible standard for getting into heaven. The jesus model doesn’t show any love, it just asks for belief, an involuntary action. He might as well send all people who can’t roll their tongues to hell, it’s pretty much the same thing.

They rebel and throw little temper tantrums because they can not have things 100% their way and they don’t like the idea of El Shadai telling them what they can or can not do; and God does not fit into their “little box.”

Hello,

He does love and forgive but alas he warned his chosen people, via the prophets of dire consequences if they ignored his commandments. This eventually came in the division of Israel and conquest of the Jewish people by their enemies from Assyria to Greece and Rome (who was an initial ally).

As the great statesman and political philosopher ot the 15th century, Machiavelli says in the Prince, it is much better to rule and govern your people through fear and respect rather than love as love is far easlier betrayed.

Cheers,

Michael Kelly

God is merciful and God is love. However, God is not a slave to love. God will punish sin wherever it is found. It is like a dried up leaf to a flame of fire. It is by nature that fire will consume a dried leaf. The same is with God. God is Holy and cannot be in the presence of sin. If God were to reveal himself to us being full of sin, we would die instantly because of our sin. God always resists the proud but gives grace to the humble. Humble yourself today before God. Confess and acknowledge your sin to him. Then allow Jesus Christ to cleanse you from all of your past, present and future sins. If you die today without Christ, His wrath is what you will get and that is eternity in Hell.

Hosea 13:16

Samaria shall bear her guilt, because she has rebelled against her God; they shall fall by the sword; their little ones shall be dashed in pieces, and their pregnant women ripped open.

Sounds a little like a tyrant to me.

What is Ironic about the question and the answers here, is God never had anything to do with any of those things you mention, It’s not God who is the tyrant here, It was man and nature that caused these things, no where in the history of mankind is there one ounce of evidence that God created these things, but there is lots of evidence that man has, people can believe what they want but to use the bible as evidence that God did these things is absolutely shear nonsense, God is a loving and all merciful God but not of this physical world, and you will only know this when it’s your time to cross over to the spiritual world, man will always blame someone or something IE God rather than taking responsibility for his own actions and creations. peace on your journey.
